Born in 1946 in Nagoya, Japan, Hiroyuki Doi has been working as an artist in Japan for the past thirty years. Since the death of his younger brother 20 years ago he has been working on large abstract pieces using only pen and ink on Japanese, 'washi', paper. -
Raho’s exhibition is the culmination of two years intensive work. Three major new canvases, an impressive two metres in height, dominate the display. These are portraits of the people closest to the artist: his wife, his mother and his brother. The monumental scale of the work give us an almost life-size encounter with his subjects who look us in the eye, compelling us to look back. -

Sam Jackson has been called one of the 'New Masters'. For this May 2008 exhibition, Boundaries, Jackson presented a series of small portraits and breathtakingly graphic depictions of sexual acts. The paintings challenge the taboos that exist in our ability to perceive and engage with these different aspects of our physical experience. -

Hinterland brought together seven young painters who work from observation. This artist-led project was possible due to the collaboration of Grizedale Arts and culminated in an exhibition in October at Thomas Williams Fine Art in Old Bond Street. The group was chosen for the conviction with which they pay attention to their surroundings. All the artists are alumni of The Prince's Drawing School in Shoreditch. -

The focus of this, her third exhibition at the gallery, was the inherent beauty and conflict of the natural world, with dramatically-depicted flowers and plants being shown almost as sentient animal life in an uncontrolled environment. Known best for her depictions of nature in the wild, Lawrence's exhibition focused on butterflies, both in their natural environment and in abstract arrangements on backgrounds of effervescent colour. -
'My recent work explores different aspects of the same fundamental idea, that our lives are made up of a highly complex series of moments that, when placed together, reveal a larger pattern. My aim is to combine the simplicity of a child's approach to art with the complexities, emotions and intricacies of the adult world.' -

Following on from the success of her first solo show, Cavendish presented a collection of romantically textured yet often darkly atmospheric paintings. The majority of the oils were English and Italian lansdcapes, with a particular focus on the sea and the motion of the water. -

In his first solo exhibition in the United Kingdom, held at TWFA, American painter, draughtsman and printmaker Sigmund Abeles (b. 1934) presented his recent pastels and drawings, as well as a representative selection of prints (etchings, drypoints, and lithographs), covering a period of thirty years, from 1966 to the present day.
